Both members recommend Penzance as your base—it is the main transport hub for West Cornwall and offers direct public transport access to your must-see locations. The journey from Reading takes approximately five hours via London Paddington to Penzance.

For St Michael's Mount in Marazion, take a short bus ride (10–11 minutes) from Penzance. Visit at low tide if possible to walk across the historic granite causeway; at high tide, small ferries operate. Book castle tickets in advance, and allow extra time for elderly visitors on the cobbled paths.

To reach Land's End, use the open-top Atlantic Coaster bus (approximately 45 minutes from Penzance). One member suggests a scenic walk from Porthcurno via the South West Coast Path (about 2 hours) to reach the famous signpost, which adds a memorable coastal experience for fit family members. Children will enjoy the bus journey itself, and you can include Sennen Cove for a beach break on the return.

On a separate day, take the scenic branch-line train from St Erth (one stop from Penzance) to St Ives. This is one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the UK and offers sandy beaches, art galleries, and a charming artistic atmosphere—ideal for a family day out.

A fifth day can include local exploration: the fishing villages of Newlyn and Mousehole, the geothermally heated Jubilee Pool in Penzance, or Morrab Gardens.
