What is AI?

AI is a field of computer science that develops systems capable of performing tasks requiring human intelligence, primarily through machine learning approaches, with current applications limited to narrow specialized domains.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science and engineering dedicated to creating systems that can perform tasks traditionally requiring human cognitive abilities. These capabilities include perception (visual and auditory recognition), natural language processing, reasoning, planning, learning from data, and decision-making.

AI systems operate through several methodological approaches: rule-based systems that use explicitly coded logic; machine learning models that identify patterns in data without complete explicit programming; deep learning using multi-layered neural networks for complex tasks like image and speech recognition; and probabilistic or symbolic methods that handle uncertainty and represent knowledge explicitly.

Current AI technology is classified as narrow or weak AI—systems designed and optimized for specific tasks such as virtual assistants, recommendation engines, search algorithms, medical imaging analysis, fraud detection, autonomous vehicle components, and generative models producing text, images, or code. General or strong AI, representing human-level intelligence across diverse domains, remains theoretical and does not currently exist. Superintelligent AI is purely speculative.

AI's practical strengths include processing large datasets at scale, discovering complex patterns humans might miss, automating repetitive tasks, and augmenting human decision-making. However, significant limitations persist: systems often reflect biases present in training data, can produce unpredictable errors, lack genuine common-sense reasoning, and require substantial computational resources and data volumes. Output quality is fundamentally constrained by the quality of training data, model architecture, and specified objectives.

Societally, AI presents both opportunities and risks. Benefits encompass productivity improvements, novel products, and medical advances. Risks include algorithmic bias, privacy erosion, workforce disruption, generation of misinformation, and concentration of power among AI developers. Responsible AI development requires emphasis on transparency, fairness, safety mechanisms, and appropriate regulatory frameworks.

How credits work

Credits are how Consensable measures AI usage. Each query consumes credits based on the models used, discussion rounds, and whether web search is enabled.

Transparent pricing

1 credit = $0.001 AI cost. Credits map directly to real AI model usage costs.

Long validity

Free credits expire after 1 month. Paid credits last 1 year (monthly plans + top-ups), or 3 years on annual plans. Buy more or upgrade at any time.

Full visibility

You'll always see exactly how many credits a query used and how many you have remaining.

Top-up packs available

Need more mid-month? Buy credit packs any time. Packs: 3,000 for $5.99 · 13,200 for $23.99.

Multi-AI consensus, unlimited.

Submit as many queries as you like. Each tier unlocks larger AI panels and longer outputs. Save ~17% with annual billing.
